Paper: Armenian President against shift to parliamentary system

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has expressed disapproval of Prosperous Armenia party’s proposal, Hraparak daily reported.

“According to President Sargsyan, CIS states, especially the South Caucasian countries are not ready for a shift to parliamentary system of government. A similar proposal was issued back in 2008, citing Georgia’s example. Then, too, the president rejected the offer, saying it will take long time and great efforts. As for the constitutional change suggesting new posts of deputy prime ministers be set, the ruling authorities have expressed readiness to face it,” the paper says.
