Syrian conflict has gone beyond the region, having escalated into an international crisis, an Arab studies expert said.

“However, despite tensions, no foreign interference is yet to be expected,” Armen Petrosyan told a news conference.

“I believe, Syrian forces might be acting to trigger foreign intrusion to secure support against Assad,” the expert said.

Commenting on reports of Azeri mercenaries fighting in Syria, the expert said that Baku can’t stand aside where its “older brother” Turkey is concerned.

“Azerbaijan is the one to benefit from its radical forces acting outside the country, which explains why Baku doesn’t act to halt the process,” Petrosyan concluded.
