Hamas chief backs Palestine’s UN bid

Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal lent support to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas's bid to upgrade the status of Palestine at the United Nations, AFP reported.

"Khaled Meshaal... held a telephone conversation with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in which he affirmed that Hamas welcomes the step of going to the United Nations for state observer status," Hamas said in a statement backing the bid.

Hamas official Ezat Risheq reiterated the movement's support on Monday, Nov 26, though they warned it should not "compromise" Palestinian "constants and rights," AFP quoted Risheq as saying.

The statement from Risheq welcomed the UN bid but warned it should not "sacrifice or compromise any inch of Palestinian land from the river to the sea."
