Tablet ownership increasing fast in leading EU countries

Tablet ownership is increasing fast in the leading European Union countries, The Wall Street Journal reports.

However, the growth is not evenly distributed, according to the figures on the comScore analyst’s blog Data Mine.

Smartphone penetration in EU5 (France, Germany, Italy, Spain and UK) is now at 53.7% with nearly 130 million people using smartphones in the three month average ending September 2012. Out of this smartphone audience, 15.5% also own a tablet, compared to only 9.3% last year. This 6.2 percentage point increase demonstrates the rapid growth of tablet adoption across Europe.

Looking at individual countries, the UK is on top with 17.7% of its smartphone customers also owning a tablet computer. Spain is not far behind on 16.9%. Italy and France are equal on 15.1%. Germany is behind the EU5 average with 12.8% of its smartphone audience owning tablets.
