EU Special Rep. urges thaw in “frozen” Karabakh conflict

EU doesn’t consider Nagorno Karabakh issue to be a frozen conflict, but rather, a conflict with a frozen solution, EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia said.

As Philippe Lefort noted, addressing Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, “EU supports the OSCE Minsk Group’s efforts in achieving a peaceful settlement. We believe current status quo unacceptable, and urge for a progress in resolving the issue.”

“Preservation of regional stability in South Caucasus is crucial to the EU, as well as cooperation in energy sector, promotion of main European values, and joint work to counter terrorism,” Azerbaijani media cited Lefort as saying.

Philippe Lefort will travel to Armenia on November 30.
