Armenian pilots killed in Congolese plane crash identified

The names of Armenian pilots who died in Congolese plane crash are announced, Foreign Ministry spokesman Tigran Balayan told PanARMENIAN.Net.

Among those perished are Varazdat Balasanyan, crew commander, born 1949; Ara Tovmasyan; Andranik Gevorgyan; Edgar Avetyan, born 1989.

About 30 people, including the crew of 7; 5 of them Armenian citizens, were killed when Il76 Armenian cargo plane chartered by Aéro-Service Congolese airline skidded off the runway and crashed into houses and a bar in the Congolese capital.

The cargo plane has crashed at Brazzaville Airport, in Congo's capital, as it was trying to land in a storm, emergency services and witnesses say.

Locals were killed as the aircraft skidded off the runway and crashed into houses and a bar before crashing into a ravine.

An investigation is under way.
