Russell Crowe talks his role in “Man of Steel”

Man of Steel actor Russell Crowe has opened up about his role playing Jor-El in the movie, Digital Spy reported.

The Gladiator star described the chance to portray Superman's Kryptonian father as a "wonderful opportunity" and hinted that the teen demographic will respond to the film.

"It afforded me a wonderful opportunity to put a specific thing in the minds of 14-year-old boys," he told MTV. "And that is that the bravest thing you can do, the most important thing you can ever do, is love."

Crowe is the first actor to tackle the role of Jor-El on the big screen since Marlon Brando in the late 1970s. Ayelet Zurer will portray his on-screen wife, Lara Lor-Van.

Henry Cavill will play the lead role of Superman with Amy Adams as Lois Lane and Michael Shannon starring as antagonist General Zod.

Man of Steel, directed by Zack Snyder, arrives in cinemas on June 14, 2013.
