SCR CEO: Iran-Armenia railway fits the logic of int’l transportation

South Caucasus Railways (SCR) CEO believes Iran-Armenia railway construction to be promising for Yerevan.

“The project fits the logic of international transportation, allowing Armenia access to the shipping routes of Persian Gulf, and later, Europe,” Victor Rebets told a December 21 news conference in Yerevan.

As SCR chief noted, the government of Armenia has already instructed relevant bodies to conduct a feasibility study for the project, with many questions to be answered soon.

Currently, the construction of the railway, estimated at $1,7-2,8 billion, is being discussed with Russia, Iran and China. World Bank and Asian Development Bank have shown interest to the project.
