The controversial amateur film “Innocence of Muslims” is now officially banned in Russia. A Moscow District court has put it on the Federal list of extremist-content materials, Russia’s Ministry of Justice has released today, December 29, according to Russian media.

The list is maintained by the Ministry of Justice and based on copies of courts’ decisions declaring that an informational material as having extremist content.

If put on the list, the material is officially banned for distribution in the country.

The “Innocence of Muslims” is number 1,589. It was outlawed by the ruling of a Moscow court on October 1, 2012.

The court deemed the “Innocence of Muslims” as an extremist film after it triggered a wave of violent protests in the Middle East, prompting the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office to apply for a ban on it in Russia.

A psycho-linguistic expertise proved the US-made film was aimed at “inciting hate and mocking people’s nationality and their beliefs.”
