Toronto Film Critics name “Stories We Tell” best documentary

Dawn of the Dead star Sarah Polley’s documentary about being the product of an adulterous relationship took home the Toronto Film Critics Association’s $100,000 best Canadian film award on Tuesday, January 8 night, The Hollywood Reporter said.

Polley’s Stories We Tell was earlier named by Toronto critics as the best documentary film of the year.

The film about her late mother’s affair, which bowed in Venice, beat out competition from Denis Côté’s Bestiaire and Michael Dowse’s Goon.

In December, the Toronto Film Critics Association named The Master, Paul Thomas Anderson’s cult-leader drama, as the best movie of 2012. The group additionally gave Anderson top honors for best director and best screenplay, while Philip Seymour Hoffman was named best supporting actor.
