MARTIROS SARYAN COMMEMORATION EVENING HELD IN ROSTOV-ON-DON
July 8 a commemoration evening devoted to Rostov resident, painter Martiros Saryan was organized at the Rostov Russian-Armenian Friendship Museum. M. Saryan is member of the USSR Academy of Arts, President of the Union of Artists of Armenia. His works are stored at Tretyakovskaya Gallery, Russian Museum and many private collections in Europe. Saryan is considered to have played a key role in the forming of the national tradition of the soviet Armenian painting. The artist was born in 1880 in Nakhichevan-on-Don. However, his historical fatherland - Armenia, occupies a major place in his works. Experts indicate influence of his favorite artists Matisse and Gauguin and his immediate teachers Valentin Serov and Konstantin Korovin on his canvases. The phrase «clear, sonorous color» is usually used next to the surname of Saryan. Russian, French painting and Armenian art traditions interweaving has resulted in the birth of a unique Saryan style. Painter's daughter was invited to the event in Surb-Khach, Don-TR reported.
