According to the German press, Pep Guardiola looks set to become the highest paid coach in the world, earning €17 million for each of the three seasons he has agreed to manage Bayern Munich, Marca reported.

Curiously, this figure also puts him above Leo Messi in the ranking. Barça pays the Argentine €16 million per season, a mill less than the man who was his former manager not so long ago.

This staggering pay rise is akin to Guardiola 'robbing the bank', as he in effect stands to earn €6 million more than he did whilst at Barcelona. The most he earned at his old club never exceeded €10 million. In effect, Guardiola has just become the highest paid manager in the footballing world.

Until now that accolade belonged to Carlo Ancelotti, who was the highest paid coach on the planet pocketing €16 million from the tycoon Al-Thani PSG. In second place was José Mourinho, who signed a new contract for €3 million a year, leaving him four million short of Pep.
