The Armenian National Congress (ANC) opposition bloc resumed protests on Jan 18 outside the Prosecutor General's Office, urging for release of ANC activist Tigran Arakelyan.
“We are staging our first protest of 2013 today. We continue struggle for freedom and justice. We have also sent letters to embassies, urging them against turning a blind eye to the violations recorded,” ANC activist Areg Gevorgyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.
ANC parliamentary group leader Levon Zurabyan further briefed the protesters on Dec 17 meeting with PACE delegation, during which the current situation was discussed.
“The incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan and his predecessor Robert Kocharian spared no effort to rule out the chance of government shift through intimidating the people and factories financing the opposition. Serzh Sargsyan destroyed the electoral system,” the MP said, pledging to continue the struggle for the release of ANC activists.
