Google is reportedly planning to unveil its successor to the Nexus 7 tablet at its I/O event in May, Digital Spy said.
DigiTimes claims to have seen engineering samples from the next-generation slate, indicating that it will feature a Full-HD display and some design improvements.
The report also claims that the follow-up to the Asus-built tablet will sport a smaller bezel, giving it a slighter and more portable form factor.
A revised version of the Android Jelly Bean operating system will also allegedly be revealed at Google I/O, rather than the much-rumoured Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie.
The internet giant is also expected to make an announcement about its previously unveiled Google Glass augmented reality glasses.
Google I/O takes place at the Moscone Center West in San Francisco between May 15 and 17.
