Elysee Palace unaware of Hollande’s April 24 visit to Armenia

The Elysee Palace has no information on a possible visit of Francois Hollande to Armenia on April 24, the French President’s press service told PanARMENIAN.Net.

According to the press office, if planned, a notification about the visit will be given through a press release.

“The itinerary of French President Francois Hollande does not include a visit to Armenia on April 24,” Laurent Bili, the French ambassador to Turkey said on Thursday, January 31.

As Hürriyet Daily News reported earlier, citing sources in the Elysee, Hollande is planning to visit Armenia on April 24, the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day.

Hollande accepted the invitation of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan in November 2012 to visit Armenia in 2013, the report said, adding that Hollande aims to issue a “strong genocide message” to the Armenian community in France before local elections in 2014.

However, the HDN said, the French president will not bring forth the bill that criminalizes denial of the Armenian Genocide to the Senate due to “technical difficulties” in the Constitution.
