CE SEC. GEN.: RESUMPTION OF KARABAKH TALKS GIVES HOPE
«The fact that the talks over settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict have resumed gives hope,» stated Council of Europe (CE) Secretary General Terry Davis. In his opinion «a year after the beginning of the Prague process the prospects of conflict peaceful settlement have considerably expanded.» Simultaneously T. Davis expressed concern over people dying at the contact line between the Armed Forces of Armenia and Azerbaijan. Speaking of the parliamentary election in Azerbaijan in November, the CE Sec. Gen. noted that «Azerbaijan has an opportunity to show that the country can successfully pass an examination on democracy and serve as an example to other countries in transition,» RFE/RL reported.
