China exports soar 25%

China's trade growth surged in January, boosted by the traditional Lunar New Year, AP said.

Data reported Friday, February 8 showed exports rose 25 percent, accelerating from December's 14.1 percent. Imports soared 28 percent, more than quadruple the previous month's 6 percent growth.

Trade got a boost from the traditional Lunar New Year. Last year, the holiday took place in January, leaving fewer work days and boosting this year's figures by comparison.

This year, the holiday takes place in February, so companies rushed to complete import and export orders before shutting for up to two weeks.
