Raspberry Pi unveils camera accessory for credit-card sized PC

The Raspberry Pi Foundation has unveiled a new forthcoming camera accessory for its cheap credit-card sized computer, Digital Spy said.

This week, the foundation started sales of a cheaper Raspberry Pi Model A, packing 256MB of RAM, only one USB port and no Ethernet connection, but costing just £15.95.

In a blog post, Raspberry Pi's Liz Upton also gave a sneak peek of a camera accessory that will be released in 2013.

Upton said that there is still more work to do on the drivers in the camera board, and the team is trying to get the picture quality from "pretty good" to "bleedin' marvellous", before it is released.

But she added: "Everything's looking pretty peachy for the moment. I don't have a release date for you yet, but we're probably at least a month away (and possibly more) from being able to sell these at the moment."

Whilst the exact sensor size of the camera is unknown, Wired reports that official comments on the RPi forums suggest it will be 5-megapixels.

The site says that users won't be able to change the camera lens, add physical filters or zoom, but the camera module will support HD video. It is expected to cost $25 (£15).
