Candidate Hayrikyan recalls election delay application

A candidate in Armenia’s presidential election, Paruyr Hayrikyan, shot and wounded in an assassination attempt, recalled his application for a delay in the February 18 polls.

As Hayrkyan told PanARMENIAN.Net, he hadn’t ruled out withdrawal of the application in certain circumstances.

Hayrikyan addressed the country’s Constitutional Court on Sunday, February 10 with an appeal to postpone the elections for two weeks.

As he noted, it’s not ruled out that the appeal will be withdrawn in case two other presidential hopefuls - Raffi Hovannisian and Hrant Bagratyan - unite with him to nominate a common candidate to continue the election campaign.

Hayrikyan was shot in the shoulder on Thursday, January 31 night close to his home in the capital Yerevan. Doctors removed the bullet on Friday and said his life was not in danger.
