Archos rolls out Platinum line of Android tablets

Archos has unveiled its Platinum line of high-end Android tablets. The French manufacturer is targeting all areas of the spectrum with the quad-core devices, launching 8-inch, 9.7-inch and 11.6-inch models, Digital Spy said.

Encased in robust aluminium, the Android Jelly Bean slates each feature an HD IPS display powered by quad-core 1.2GHz processors and 2GB RAM.

The entry-level 8-inch Archos 80 Platinum sports a 1024 x 768 resolution and will challenge the likes of the Google Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire HD with a price point of £179.

Apple's iPad will find itself in direct competition with the mid-range Archos 97 Platinum HD, which features a resolution of 2048 x 1536 and is available for approximately half the price at £249.

The Archos 116 Platinum rounds off the range with an 11.6-inch 1920 x 1080 screen and a launch price of £299.

The 8-inch and 9.7-inch devices will be available later this month, with their larger sibling landing in April.
