Samsung rolls out REX budget phones for emerging markets

Samsung has unveiled its REX line of budget handsets geared towards the emerging markets, Digital Spy said.

The REX 60, REX 70, REX 80 and REX 90 all feature Java-based operating systems with Samsung's TouchWiz technology on board.

Screen sizes vary between 2.8 inches and 3.5 inches, and camera capabilities range from 1.8-megapixel to 3.2-megapixel on the high-end device.

"As the number one mobile leader and innovator, we are committed to developing the best possible mobile solutions to suit all lifestyles and budgets, which is why we are so excited to launch the REX series across a number of the world's fastest growing markets," said Samsung's JK Shin.

Samsung faces stiff competition in emerging markets such as India and Brazil from Nokia, which released two budget Asha handsets last year.

The REX phones are expected to be priced between £50 and £80.
