Heritage leader urges president-elect Sargsyan to admit his mistake

Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannissian said he never strived for posts.

“This time, however, I do. I am the elected present of Armenia,” Hovannissian said at Feb 19 press conference in Yerevan’s Liberty Square.

He further gave president-elect Serzh Sargsyan one day to admit his mistake before the law and the Armenian people.

“He will receive people’s forgiveness in that case. People have won, every one knows this. I hope Serzh Sargsyan will admit my victory and the victory of Armenian people,” Heritage leader said.

Otherwise, the party leader expressed readiness to hold a rally at Liberty Square and keep it till the end.

He further said he will possibly address the court with a demand to recount the votes.

Armenia held presidential elections on Feb 18.

The votes divided as follows: the chairman of the ruling RPA, incumbent president Serzh Sargsyan garnered 861 378 (58,64 %) votes; Heritage party chairman Raffi Hovannisian got 539 674 (36,74%) votes; former foreign minister of Nagorno Karabakh Republic Arman Melikyan received 3 520 (0,24%) votes; former prime minister Hrant Bagratyan - 31 643 (2,15%) votes; National Self-Determination Union party head Paruyr Hayrikyan - 18 093 (1,23%) votes; Radio Hay director Andrias Ghukasyan 8 328 (0,57%) votes; literature expert Vardan Sedrakyan – 6 203 (0,42%) votes.
