Former presidential candidate, Heritage party leader Raffi Hovannisian was getting ready for a speech in Yerevan’s Liberty Square, when police officers told him to leave the area, declaring the rally unauthorized.

In response, Raffi Hovannisian condemned the selective enforcement of law. The former candidate announced a decision to go to the president’s residence, citing the president’s spokesman’s statement expressing Serzh Sargsyan’s readiness to meet with him.

Accompanied by supporters, Mr. Hovannisian further walked to the president’s residence, with police officers trying to ban him, citing the absence of the relevant permission and the large number of demonstrators. Heritage leader urged the demonstrators to divide into groups of 50 and commit no violations.
