Armenian embassy in Moscow hosted an event to mark the 25th anniversary of the petition of the Special Session of the Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Oblast Council of People’s Deputies for secession from Soviet Azerbaijan.

At the February 20 event, the Armenian ambassador to Russia Oleg Yesayan characterized the 1988 developments as the awakening of Armenian people.

A Karabakh liberation movement activist Semyon Babayan, who headed Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Oblast Council in 1988, also spoke at the event, Armenian Foreign Ministry press service reported.
