Armenian govt. rejects Armavir mayor’s resignation

On February 28, Armenian government rejected Armavir mayor Ruben Khlghatyan’s resignation.

Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration Vache Terteryan said the ministry held a working consultation to specify the reasons behind the resignation.

On Feb 25, Ruben Khlghatyan sent in resignation, with the relevant protocol filed to the ministry of territorial administration.

As deputy minister Terteryan noted, the resignation statement didn’t stem from the failure to fulfill the responsibilities assumed.

“The resignation is rejected, considering the non-completion of his term in office and the continuation of programs in Armavir,” he said.

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan, in turn, noted the approach as correct.

“Resignations should not be conditioned by political processes,” he said.
