Moldova's parliament on Tuesday, March 5, passed a vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Vlad Filat's government after weeks of feuding within the three-party pro-Europe coalition which has governed the former Soviet republic for more than three years, Reuters reported.

Deputies supported the no confidence move, which had been proposed by the opposition communists, by 54 votes, three more than the 51 required for it to be passed.

The vote means that Filat's government immediately falls but will stay on as an interim one until a new prime minister is appointed, on the basis of proposals from President Nicolae Timofti, or early elections are held.
