Sumgait pogroms 25th anniv. commemorated in India

On March 4, India’s Kolkata hosted an event in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of Sumgait pogroms, with Armenian ambassador Ara Hakobyan, senior members of Holy Nazareth Church board and Armenian community representatives present.

A service to honor the memory of those killed was held in Holy Trinity Armenian Church, with Ambassador Hakobyan delivering a speech. The envoy particularly reflected on Artsakh movement, Azeri-led pogroms targeting the Armenian population in Sumgait, Kirovabad, Baku and other cities. He slammed the continuation of Azerbaijan’s anti-Armenian policy, namely release and glorification of axe-killer Ramil Safarov.

The event further featured performance of patriotic songs and screening of a documentary on Sumgait pogroms.
