The meeting between the reelected president Serzh Sargsyan and former candidate Raffi Hovannisian signaled the end of the post-election period in Armenia, a political expert said.

As Sergey Minasyan told a press conference, Raffi Hovannisian will face difficulties in further leading a political movement.

Dwelling on Hovannisian’s decision to go on hunger strike, he said the struggle aims to create obstacles for the current leader.

“Hunger strike can’t change the political situation in Armenia,’ the expert said, conditioning the decision by Hovannisian’s unpreparedness for the struggle.

“Hovannisian initially pursued the path of political improvisation. However, he failed to keep the present resource, and hunger strike is a tool to change the course of the struggle,” he said, noting the decision as a method to put an end to the process.

Dwelling on Heritage party’s opportunities in Yerevan City Council elections, the expert said the party will face more difficulties due to other opposition forces’ decision to run in the polls.
