Istanbul Prosecutor's Office urges to imprison Armenian writer

Istanbul Prosecutor's Office completed the investigation of the case against the Turkish Armenian writer b>Sevan Nisanyan, urging to sentence him to 1.5 year in prison for “offending religions values."

Nisanyan doesn’t recognize the charges against him, refuses to defend himself, saying “the right to freedom of speech is unfamiliar to some people.”

“Defending would mean recognizing the legitimacy of the case. I am responsible for my words,” Agos newspaper quoted Sevan Nisanyan as saying.

“There are a lot of ignorant people in the country. I have no time to read the charges, a mere product of imagination. I have no patience,” the writer said, adding that imprisonment will only harm’s Turkish international image.
