69% of Americans against U.S. lead in Israel-Palestine process

A large majority of Americans (69 percent) believe that the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama should leave the handling of the peace process to Israel and the Palestinians rather than taking the lead in attempts to relaunch negotiations between the sides, a Washington Post-ABC News poll released Monday, March 18 found, according to The Jerusalem Post.

The findings came just two days before Obama was scheduled to begin his first visit to Israel as president. The White House has intimated that while Obama would be discussing the peace process with Israeli and Palestinian leaders, he would not be bringing with him a specific peace initiative.

The Washington Post-ABC poll found that only 26% of Americans think the US should take a leading role in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
