Yerevan being a separate entity in some sense, the problems of the Armenian capital and those of provinces are always different, a political analyst believes.

“Administrative duties are not the only responsibility of the Yerevan Mayor. Party forces are mainly concentrated in Yerevan and its crucial for the latters to prove their resources may bring necessary results,” Alexander Markarov told a news conference.

As he further noted, during Yerevan City Council elections, authorities and the opposition won’t be the only one to vie for seats – a separate struggle will be ongoing inside the opposition.

“Change in the opposition ranks is quite possible. At May 5 elections, Heritage candidate will be given a chance to see that 37% of votes he gained during presidential poll had not been cast for him exclusively,” the expert said, noting a dwindling number of Raffi Hovannisian's supporters at Liberty Square.
