Expert: newly-appointed Russian envoy to focus on Karabakh issue

Newly-appointed Russian ambassador to ArmeniaIvan Volynkin will continue Vyacheslav Kovalenko’s diplomacy and will further contribute to the strengthening of the relations between the two countries, political expert said.

“Former envoy Vyacheslav Kovalenko had a big asset in the signing of 2010 Armenia-Russia agreement. Besides, Kovalenko is well informed of Nagorno Karabakh issue,” Sergey Minasyan said.

The expert further noted that the newly-appointed ambassador will focus on Armenian-Russian strategic, political and economic ties, as well as Karabakh conflict settlement during his diplomatic mission.

On March 22, by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decree, Ivan Volynkin was appointed ambassador to Armenia, replacing Kovalenko on the post.
