European Commission to Allot 5-7 Million Euros for ANPP Security Enhancement
The European Commission will allot 5-7 million Euros for the enhancement of security of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant in 2006-2007, Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Georgia and Armenia, Ambassador Torben Holtze stated in Yerevan today. In his words, the funds saved in the course of previous years will be spent this year. Mr. Holtze noted that European Union is concerned over the safety of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant and keeps on rendering assistance for its enhancement. "The matter is not that the EU demands the closing of the ANPP but that in 1997 the Armenian government requested the EU on working out security standards for the Nuclear Power Plant", the Ambassador said. He added that the EU leads policy of the kind not only towards Armenia but also towards all the young states, which possess "power plants of the first generation".
