Susan Sarandon to star as detective in "The Calling" serial killer pic

Susan Sarandon and Topher Grace will star in indie serial kller pic The Calling, Deadline said. The indie thriller will see Sarandon play a small-town Canadian detective who tracks down a serial killer targeting the terminally ill to use as disciples in his own planned resurrection.

Grace is the ambitious police officer recently transferred from Toronto who becomes the detective’s right-hand man.

The Calling was written by Scott Abramovitch and will be directed by Jason Stone, with production getting underway this week.

Christine Vachon, Killer Films and Randy Manis are producing. Both actors appear together in Lionsgate’s ensemble The Big Wedding, which is due out April 26.

Sarandon just wrapped The Last Of Robin Hood starring Kevin Kline and Dakota Fanning. She also starred in Arbitrage alongside Richard Gere. Grace recently finished work on romantic comedy A Many Splintered Thing starring Chris Evans, Michelle Monaghan and Aubrey Plaza. He also starred in Paul Weitz’s new play Lonely, I’m Not.
