Turkish Media: Term "Genocide" Not To Be Used in European Commission Report
The report on Turkey to be issued by the European Commission is in the limelight of the Turkish press. According to Zaman Turkish newspaper, despite the efforts of the Armenian lobbyists the authors of the report will avoid term "genocide". The report maintains a provision about Armenian-Turkish relations, where the phrase "tragic events of 1915" is used. It mentions that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayip Erdogan sent a letter to Armenian President Robert Kocharian, in which an examination of 1915 events by independent experts is suggested. The paper addresses also Robert Kocharian's proposal to start negotiations without preconditions.

According to report of Milliyet Turkish newspaper, the report will not rate Kurds as national minorities. The term «national minority will refer to representatives of non-Muslim peoples only.
