The UK trailer for Jack Black's acclaimed comedy Bernie has aired, Digital Spy said.

The actor plays the title role in the movie, starring alongside Shirley MacLaine and Matthew McConaughey.

Bernie reunites Black with director Richard Linklater after they worked together on School of Rock ten years ago.

The film is based on the true story of Texan Bernie Tiede, a sweet and popular member of the local community who befriends a wealthy elderly widow named Marjorie Nugent (MacLaine), whom everyone hates.

Bernie finally tires of Nugent's demands and kills her, taking advantage of her wealth to support local businesses and neighbours. Local DA Danny Buck Davidson (McConaughey) becomes suspicious of him and charges him with first-degree murder.

Black's portrayal of Tiede earned him a Golden Globe nomination.

The film opens in UK cinemas later this month.
