Oscar-nommed Hailee Steinfeld in "Romeo and Juliet" adaptation trailer

Hailee Steinfeld ("True Grit") fakes a British accent with ease in the first trailer for the latest movie adaptation of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", TheWrap said.

The 16-year-old Oscar nominee stars as Juliet opposite Douglas Booth ("Great Expectations") as Romeo, while Ed Westwick ("Gossip Girl") plays Tybalt, "Homeland" star Damien Lewis plays Lord Capulet, and Paul Giamatti portrays Friar Laurence in Carlo Carlei's film.

Unlike the last big screen incarnation of the classic tragedy -- Baz Luhrmann's 1996 "Romeo + Juliet" starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes as the titular lovers -- this is a period piece, as opposed to a modern take. (It's not so period that the trailer can't squeeze in a few bars of a song from indie-goth singer Zola Jesus, though.)

Julian Fellowes, the Oscar-winning creator of hit television series "Downton Abbey," wrote the screenplay, which is to say that he adapted it from that Shakespeare fellow.
