International seminar titled “Parliamentary monitoring of security system” kicked off in Armenia’s National Assembly on April 16, with MPs, international experts, representatives of NGOs and security institutions present.
Head of National Assembly Standing Committee on Defense, National Security and Internal Affairs Koryun Nahapetyan voiced hope that the discussions will be effective, given the inclusive nature of the topic.
Deputy head of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF) Philipp Flury, in turn, said a memorandum of understanding was signed with Armenian parliament, envisaging DCAF experts’ visits to Armenia and conduction of consultations on the goals and missions of state institutions, control mechanisms and the European experience. He said during the seminar the experts will brief on the supervisory functions of the legislative body, combining their practical experience with scientific principles.
