Kocharian: Armenian and Azeri Presidents Scheduled to Meet in January 2006
Armenian President Robert Kocharian stated in Ljubljana during today's joint news conference with Slovenian President Janez Drnovsek that he "sees actual opportunities for progress in the talks over Nagorno Karabakh settlement." In the Armenian leader's words, he expects activation of Karabakh settlement in mid-December, when OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs arrive in the region. A meeting of Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan is scheduled in January 2006, Kocharian remarked. «I suppose that we will be able to speak to journalists more specifically at the end of January,» he added. Kocharian thanked Slovenian President for active efforts aimed at settlement of the NK conflict undertaken during Slovenia's presidency at the OSCE in 2005. He reminded that Slovenian FM, OSCE Chairman-in-Office Dimitrij Rupel visited the region twice this year and kept in touch with Armenian FM Vartan Oskanian. «We were able to active the peace process bringing it to a level that today with speak of the prospect of conflict settlement with cautious optimism,» R. Kocharian added, reported Mediamax.
