Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman in “Thor: The Dark World” teaser trailer

Thor: The Dark World has premiered its first trailer, Digital Spy said.

Chris Hemsworth returns for the Marvel sequel, which sees the Norse god of thunder face off against Christopher Eccleston's villain Malekith and a race known as the Dark Elves.

Natalie Portman will reprise her role as Jane Foster, while Tom Hiddleston is also back playing Thor's villainous adoptive brother Loki. Idris Elba, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Rene Russo, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings and Zachary Levi round out the supporting cast for the fantasy epic.

Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor is behind the camera - replacing Thor's Kenneth Branagh - working on a script from Captain America: The First Avenger duo Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, plus comic writer Christopher Yost.

Thor: The Dark World will open on October 30 in UK cinemas and on November 8 in the US.
