John Grisham is revisiting A Time to Kill, his very first novel, with a sequel centered on main character Jake Brigance, publisher Knopf Doubleday announced, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sycamore Row will go on sale on October 22 and is likely to be one of fall's bestsellers.

Grisham is one of the world's bestselling authors--his lifetime sales are estimated in excess of 250 million books--and one of Hollywood's most bankable writers--his ten film adaptations have grossed more than $664 million.

Knopf revealed little about the plot other than promising a trademark Grisham tale of "intrigue, suspense and plot twists."

A Time to Kill was published in 1989 and sold modestly. But after The Firm and other thrillers made Grisham a brand name, his first book was reissued and became a best-seller.

The book was adapted into a 1996 film starring Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock and Samuel L. Jackson.

The movie grossed $108 million, making it the second-highest grossing of the ten films adopted from the author's work. The Firm with lifetime grosses of $158 million remains Grisham's most successful film adaptation.
