Armenia Launches Wind Power Plant
The possible rise in prices for Russian gas imported to Armenia will not be a shock, Armenian Energy Minister Armen Movsisian stated December 6 at the launching ceremony of the first-ever Armenian wind power plant in the Lori region. In his words, the price for gas in the republic was law and did not meet the current price at the international market what contributed to the development of the energy field of Armenia. According to Armen Movsisian, the RA is negotiating with Iran on supply of liquid fuel to Armenia via a compact pipeline and by motor transport. To note, presently Iran and Armenia are building a highway connecting the two countries. In early 2007 the Iran-Armenia gas pipeline will be put into operation.

Meanwhile, the combined power of the wind turbines is 2.6 megawatts. The facility, the first of its kind in the South Caucasus, has been built with $3.5 million assistance provided by the Iranian government. The plant will process energy with the wind speed of 3-15 meter per second. It is planned to make the capacity 90 megawatts, reported IA Regnum.
