Nicolas Cage is attached to star in Hotel 33, a supernatural horror thriller from Foresight Unlimited, Envision Entertainment and Emmett/Furla, The Hollywood Reporter said.
The production is a reunion of the producers behind the upcoming action thrillers 2 Guns and Lone Survivor, both of which are being released by Universal.
Kellie Madison wrote the script and will direct. Madison has written and directed several shorts; this will be her feature directorial debut. The producers are targeting a start in September.
According to Foresight, the project “is based on the presumed event surrounding the disappearance of 32 people on the opening night of the Grand Hotel in Williamsport, Pa., in 1953. While Detective Kaminsky (Cage) is investigating the event, four teenagers break into the now-abandoned hotel for a night of festivities. Things soon go awry, and Kaminsky now has to turn his attentions to discovering the mysterious happenings surrounding the strange disappearance of two of the four teenagers."
The project already has a domestic distributor lined up: Open Road Films.
Producing will be Randall Emmett and George Furla, with exec-producer duties being handled by Envision Entertainment’s Remington Chase, Stepan Martirosyan and Vitaly Grigoriants and Foresight’s Mark Damon. Malek Akkad also is an executive producer on the film.
