Greece to discuss Genocide denial criminalization bill

A draft law envisaging criminalization and a penalty for denial and distortion of the facts of genocides was submitted to Greek parliament.

The draft law was readied as a counter discrimination measure. The bill stipulates for 3-36 months’ imprisonment or a fine of 5-20 thousand euro for denial of genocides.

Greek parliament recognized the genocide of Pontic Greeks, the Armenian Genocide and the Greek genocide in Asia Minor in 1994, 1996 and 1998 respectively.
