“Royal Affair” helmer, “Harry Potter” producers team for “Fables”

Warner Bros. has secured three important figures to work on "Fables", a film adaptation of DC Comics' series. Nikolaj Arcel, the man behind the lens for Alicia Vikander-starring "A Royal Affair", has been appointed to take charge of the film. The Danish filmmaker will team up with "Harry Potter" producers, David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford of Heyday Films, AceShowbiz said.

"Fables" was created in 2002 by Bill Willingham. The series follows fairytales and folklore characters, from Snow White to the Big Bad Wolf, who are kicked out of their world and form a clandestine community in New York City known as Fabletown. It has snatched fourteen Eisner Awards, including Best New Series in 2003 and Best Short Story in 2007.

The Hollywood Reporter, which broke the news first, also learns that the project has already got a screenwriter attached. Jeremy Slater of upcoming untitled New Fantastic Four project has been hired to provide the script. Still in early development stage, the film has no start date yet.

Arcel's "Royal Affair" was made in 2012, also starring Mads Mikkelsen and Mikkel Folsgaard. Receiving rave reviews from critics, the Oscar-nominated historical drama led Folsgaard to be the winner of the Silver Bear for Best Actor at the Berlin Film Fesitval in the same year.
