Javakhk political activist Chakhalyan sues Georgian president

Javakhk-based political activist, former political prisoner Vahagn Chakhalyan filed a lawsuit against Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, ex-prime minister Vano Merabishvili and former governor of Samtskhe-Javakheti Giorgi Khachidze.

In a conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, Mr. Chakhalyan said the claim was already filed, with the answer to be issued in 30 days.

The above mentioned officials earlier accused Chakhalyan of intimidating Georgian priests and committing violence against them.

Chakhalyan was arrested by Georgian authorities on July 21, 2008. He was given a 10-year sentence for “organization of large-scale events, public disturbance, hooliganism and illegal possession of weapons,” based on falsified evidence. Chakhalyan was released in January, 2013.
