At least one killed, dozens wounded as trains collide in Argentina

At least one person has been killed and dozens wounded after two trains collided near Buenos Aires, Argentine officials say, according to BBC News.

The accident happened near the Castelar station, some 30km (19 miles) west of the capital, when a passenger train hit a stationary train that was empty.

At least three people are still trapped. Rescue crews and volunteers are at the scene helping the injured. Dozens of ambulances are also at the crash site.

Train operator spokesman Pablo Gunning was quoted in the local media as saying that there "various fatalities" after the collision at about 07:30 local time (10:30 GMT).

It happened on the Sarmiento rail line, where 51 people died and more than 700 were injured in a train crash in February 2011.
