Magnitude-5.6 quake hits south of Crete

A magnitude-5.6 earthquake has struck in the Mediterranean Sea south of the Greek island of Crete but no damage or casualties have been reported, according to The Associated Press.

The Athens Geodynamics Institute says the earthquake occurred at 12:39 am local time on Sunday, June 16, some 31 miles off the south coast of Crete at a depth of 16 miles.

A magnitude-5.9 quake had struck Saturday evening, a little south of the current earthquake's spot and closer to the surface.
