Rearmament, modernization of Armenian air forces planned

Joint collective aviation forces will be formed in the framework of the CSTO, the Organisation’s Secretary General said.

As Nikolai Bordyuzha told a news conference in Yerevan, relevant documents have been signed, with the plan for the forces’ creation mapped out.

“The collective aviation forces will be based on CSTO states-provided units to secure re-deployment of troops and aid national armed forces in case of violation of principles of self-determination and territorial integrity,” he noted.

“Also, upgrading of the Gyumri aviation base was discussed with Russian Helicopters company,” he said.

The National Security Council Secretary Artur Baghdasaryan, in turn, spoke about the expansion of Armenia’s air forces and modernization of the system. “Gyumri-deployed Russian military base will be re-armed, with a number of re-armament activities planned throughout the year 20214,” he said.
