Sandra Bullock on “The Heat” comedic chemistry with Melissa McCarthy

The Heat's Sandra Bullock has described herself and Melissa McCarthy as an "odd couple", Digital Spy said.

Bullock stars in The Heat as an FBI agent who partners with a loose cannon cop (McCarthy) to take down a drug lord.

In an interview with Flicks and Bits, Bullock discussed her and McCarthy's on-screen comedic chemistry.

"We're the odd-couple. She's Felix and she's Oscar [from The Odd Couple], no doubt about it," she joked. "We're sort of a modern day odd-couple. You love nothing more than them to go at it, every single day."

The actress continued: "And it was really easy for us to work together, we would much rather know what the story is and know where we have to get from A to B... and then just let us have at it. And that process was great. It's rare when it works, when you have that comedic timing that's complementary, but it's such a great feeling because you don't even have to look at each other.

"We could be staring straight ahead and we know each other's signals, we know how to fill pauses if somebody needs help. It's a gift and you can't manufacture it. Honestly, I had such a blast. Their relationship is beautifully antagonistic and they're basically just two strong individuals fighting for their territory."

Bullock also said she felt encouraged by director Paul Feig allowing her and McCarthy to improvise some scenes.
